NYC Area Families: Winter Break Activity - Liberty Science Center's 12 Days of Science [Now Thru January 1st]

If you're a fellow NYC/Tri-State area parent, and you have children home for the winter-break, consider visiting the Liberty Science Center for their 6th Annual 12 Days of Science, which runs from 12/21 -1/1.

I was invited to attend, and we will be bringing our 3.5 year old over the break. The center offers a ton of exhibits and presentations for all ages, from the littlest learners to science savvy school-aged kids!  In addition to all of the usual attractions and exhibits, there will be some great winter-themed events, including live animals (like penguins!) and really cool science experiments like making snow and liquid nitrogen ice cream!

Highlights of the 12 Days of Science at

Liberty Science Center

Curious George (12/28-29) and Sid the Science Kid (12/26-27) will make appearances and pose for pictures with guests. One lucky guest who shares their photos on Facebook or Twitter will win free admission for a whole year!

Guests can meet penguins from Jenkinson’s Aquarium (12/27-29) and wolves from the NY Wolf Conservation Center (12/26 & 30).

Casey Carle, comic bubble-ologist, returns to LSC with an amazing one-man show that blends comedy, science, and music in the ever-popular BubbleMania (12/28-29).

Retro Science (daily) will challenge families to work together and use simple machines to complete fun tasks – like having kids lift their parents!

Families with young learners will be pleased to find new programs each day just for them – films in the Kids’ Cinema, interactive science lessons disguised as playtime in We Explore, and LSC’s very own high-tech Story Time.

Animation –

Enter the colorful world of cartoons and explore more than 25 interactive stations in the current traveling exhibition, Cartoon Network’s Animation, before it leaves LSC on January 4!

  1. That sounds like a really good science center. It's a great way for kids to learn and have fun all at the same time.
