{BistroMD} Review & Giveaway CLOSED

The hardest part about weight-loss or healthy eating is the time commitment to planning, preparing and cooking meals. With busy schedules - it can often be hard to put yourself first and find that time.  I had the amazing opportunity to try BistroMD: Doctor Designed Gourmet Meals. I had hears such amazing things about the meal plan that I was so excited to give it a try.

Bistro MD does all the work for you. They deliver healthy, nutritious and doctor-designed meals right to your door. There are different plans to suit different lifestyles, so choosing the right option  is easy. Developed by Dr. Caroline Cederquist, a bariatric surgeon, BistroMD helps you lose weight without sacrificing taste and quality. And you actually feel like you're eating, rather than 'starving' on shakes or protein bars.  The key is the nutritional components and the right balance of foods. This comprehensive program is SO easy!

How it works: I'm not a dietician or a doctor, but I do know from my own experiences that successful weight loss takes a combination of factors to work - decreased calories, the right foods, etc.  BistroMD targets insulin resistance and Metabolic Syndrome (the way your body/metabolism functions - easy to gain, hard to lose) with the right balance of proteins, carbohydrates, fat and fiber. I could NEVER plan this for myself - knowing BistroMD has done it for me is wonderful.  Ordering is easy and there is no commitment - you can cancel at any time.
Review
I was able to try the 7 Day Program - an entire week of gourmet, chef-prepared entrees.  My order arrived quickly and was packaged perfectly in a cooler on dry ice. One might be concerned about having frozen foods shipped, but my foods arrived as though they were straight from the freezer. The plan states to store your food in the freezer and take out the food for the next day to thaw overnight in the fridge - I do recommend following this advice as I did find the food to cook a little bit better when it was thawed first.

My freezer was a little full - but it was such a relief to know that I did not need to focus on my meals for the week. With a toddler and being in the middle of a home purchase, I have too much else going on and Bistro MD made things so much easier for me. Substitutions are allowed in the plan and I was able to ask for a non-seafood meal plan, which is super accommodating & customer friendly. Each meal comes in it's own sleeve complete with preparation information, ingredients and nutritional facts. Not all plans provide this, so I love that I know what I'm eating! If you decide you don't like a certain type of meal, you can ask that you not receive it. In addition, as a BistroMD customer, you have access to a personal dietitian, a wonderful resource when you're trying to lose weight and get healthy.

You can see the different types of program options that BistroMD offers - they range from a full 7 day plan with snacks, to a work week plan with no snacks. There is something for every lifestyle.

My 7-Day Plan

First of all, I have to say, I was SO impressed with the quality and taste of the foods. The meals tasted fresh-prepared and not bland or over-processed. At times, you may need to add your own seasonings (BistroMD offers advice on this) but most of the times, I was able to enjoy my meals as is. I also loved that I received a personalized folder with my order, outlining my meal plan, day by day, meal by meal. I stacked them in order in my freezer and I was ready to go.

Below is what my 7-day plan consisted of and notes on
some of the dishes:

Day 1:
Breakfast: Spinach Mushroom Crepe with Mixed Berry Compote (very good - loved the mixture of flavors and the crepe was perfect!)
Lunch: Turkey with Cider Gravy (pictured)
Dinner: Chicken Marsalis with Brussel Sprouts (The chicken was excellent and I even ate the brussel sprouts, which were actually pretty good!)

Day 2:
Breakfast: Omelet with Veggie Sausage Patty
Lunch: Yellow Rice with Chicken/Chorizo with Spinach & Black Lentils (pictured) (loved this dish - was so good and the mixture of chorizo, chicken and lentils was awesome!
Dinner: Pot Roast w/Mushroom Peppercorn

Day 3:
Breakfast: Omelet Served with Canadian Style Bacon
Lunch: Ham and Turkey w/ Confetti Rice Blend
Dinner: Vegetable and Beef Stir Fry

Day 4:
Breakfast: High Protein Bagel with Canadian Style Bacon and egg white patty (Very good, but I have to admit, I added a piece of low fat cheese to this...I think it made it even better.
Lunch: Southwestern Chicken Wrap (very good)
Dinner: Penne alla Vodka (It's pasta, and I love pasta. This was good..and gave me my pasta fix!)

Day 5:

Breakfast: Stuffed French Toast (was excellent, probably my favorite breakfast this week)
Lunch: Chicken Breast Stuffed with Broccoli and Cheddar (pictured)
Dinner: Roasted Turkey with Onion Garlic Jam

Day 6:
Breakfast: Chicken and Mushroom Crepe
Lunch: Pork Tenderloin in Asian Plum Sauce (I'm normally not a big fan of pork, but this dish really surprised me. Great sauce and very tender meat)
Dinner: My Night - within reason you can have what you like for dinner. I opted for homemade pizza...kept it healthy and didn't feel guilty, knowing I had eaten well the entire week thus far!

Day 7:
Breakfast: Cinnamon Sweet Potato Pancake (great twist on a pancake - very good!)
Lunch: Tofu Curry Stew - This was probably the only meal that I did not enjoy this week. And not because of taste or quality but because I'm not a tofu fan. Going forward, I would request not to receive tofu - they are great with accommodating substitutions!
Dinner: Beef Tips in Red Wine Sauce (The sauce was sooo good and really makes this dish.)

Overall, I loved my week of meals. It was great eating such a variety foods. I think I was able to stick to it because of the varied meals.  I felt like I was being treated all week - because I would never have the time to prepare these foods myself.  I weighed myself at the beginning of the week and at the end, I ended up down 3 pounds. You have to understand, this is huge for me! It usually takes a lot for me to budge the scale that much in one week. With regular use of the program, I could see how the pounds would slip away. I highly recommend this program if you, like me, are busy and cannot find the time to carefully plan your meals.

  12. I learned that all meals are cooked under the supervision of Dr. Cederquist. I would benefit from this because I am often busy running my kids around and don't always have time to prepare myself a healthy meal. This would take that worry off my mind.

  13. I learned that unlike other diet programs that send you powered or freeze-dried foods, Bistro MD chefs create gourmet healthy dishes with quality ingredients. This would benefit my very busy life
and keep me from eating junk food.

  36. I am a gfc follower (cw). I learned that the meals are chef prepared and delivered to your door and you can do a 5 day with or without snacks meal plan for a fairly reasonable price and there is no commitment. I love that they have the right balance of protein (40-45%)carbs/fat already figured out. This would be great because I am always doing the mad rush (what's for dinner) and it ends up being not as healthy as desired.

  134. I learned that my BMI is higher than I thought. I knew that it was high and that I need to lose weight but didn't know it was that high..and no I'm not telling on here!! I think they could help because of the meals being already prepared and being approved by doctors. I need something like that.
