On January 24, 2011, Liam Witt (otherwise known as Prince Liam the Brave) lost his brave, four year battle with cancer. Liam was the inspiration behind Cookies for Kids' Cancer
started by his parents to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer research.
In honor of what would have been Liam's 7th birthday, Cookies for Kids' Cancer is asking for your help in organizing 700 Bake Sales for Liam in the month of May. Their sponsor, The Glad Products Company, is matching 100% of the funds raised at bake sales in May up to $225,000.
About the Organization
Gretchen and Larry Witt started this organization after their son, Liam (two at the time) was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a very aggressive form of cancer with only a 30% survival rate. They were shocked to learn that these odds were so low because of a lack of funding for the research and trials to help find a cure. The family moved into action to start raising funds and awareness by organizing a huge bake sale. Working with 250 volunteers, they raised over $400,000 by selling over 96,000 cookies over three weeks -- Cookies for Kids’ Cancer had been born. Today, the organization has supporters both nationally and around the world – with the goal to fund the improvement of the survival rates of all pediatric cancers through bake sales.
No matter the size of your organization - schools, troops, churches, etc - you can organize a bake sale. It starts by registering your event and then utilizing the prep tools on Cookies for Kids’ Cancer’s website. They provide great resources and have a Bake Sale Kit to help you run a successful bake sale. There are even recipes and bake sale tips to help your sale run smoothly.
You can also purchase Cookies for Kids’ Cancer cookies HERE. They have yummy flavors such as Liam’s Lemon Sugar, Dark Chocolate Cranberry, Triple Chocolate Chunk and Chewy Oatmeal Raisin. These 100% natural ingredient cookies contain no preservatives or trans-fats. They are fresh, hand-baked and come beautifully packaged – making them the perfect gift. Best of all, with your tax-deductible purchase, 100% of the profit goes towards funding pediatric cancer research. I can think of no better gift to give than that.
I plan to help spread the word about this organization through word of mouth and social media outlets. I also love giving cookies as gifts – and I just found a new favorite place to purchase these cookies! Going forward, I want to keep this organization in mind if any groups I am a part of are looking to do a bake sale for a great not-for-profit cause.
Connect with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer
I plan to start my support of this organization by gifting TWO of my wonderful readers a dozen cookies each from Cookies for Kids' Cancer in the cookie of their choice.

ReplyDeleteAlso, on the Cookies for Kids' Cancer site, I learned that the organization's mission is to raise funds to support research for all pediatric cancers. As they state on the website, "The survival rates for pediatric cancers have improved from where they were in the 80's when very few children survived at all." I was one of the children from the 80s who DID survive pediatric cancer, but I had friends who didn't, and I would do just about anything to help others like them. I love this organization!

I learned this at the site: 'Recent reports indicate that nearly two-thirds of childhood cancer survivors experience significant medical problems resulting from their original cancer and/or its treatment.' Luckily my hubby is healthy today. He is having some problems with the pigment in his eyes affecting his vision but we are not sure yet if that is from his treatment or hereditary. All in all though he's doing well and we are so blessed.
